| Introduction |
in 1895 a small group of Christians began meeting in the kitchen of a house in Ramsnest. From that small informal group, Chiddingfold Baptist Church has grown.
The church moved to a nearby barn before making the step, in 1905, of building the chapel in woodside road. The chapel was added to in the 1960's and the facilities have been well used over several generations.
In more recent years the church has grown again. With a changing pattern of church life and a desire to be more effective in reaching and serving the community, the church recognised the need to move once more.
After several years of investigations, prayer and discussions, we now bring to you "Project Generations"
The Vision
Project Generations is about the continuing vision of God to his people.
A vision which reaches out to every generation.
In the possibilities a new church centre will offer, we are conscious of several areas for all areas of your community
- Children and youth
To have premises which support the work with the children and youth of our community. Including Crèche, holiday clubs, youth groups and camps.
- Senior Citizens
To be a meeting place for older friends at a potentially lonely time in life. With modern facilities able to cater for the differently-abled.
- Families
To provide a venue to support families at a time when life is often under pressure
- Social
To be a place where people can relax and relate together. After all Jesus came to bring life in all it's fullness.
- Spiritual
To have a home for worship which changes peoples lives as they encounter God for themselves.
A contemporary space for relevant Bible teaching.
Christianity is about discovering and growing in a relationship with God.
- Support
To become a venue for counseling and personal growth.
The Aim
Project Generations is about providing modern flexible facilities for the developing work of Chiddingfold Baptist Church, making the building available for the use of the local community and other groups.
This includes making the most of the rural situation by giving recreations space outside as well as inside the building.
The Plan
The plan is to build the new church in Ridgley Road on a site next to the New Doctors surgey as part of a development also including 14 low cost homes. The building itself will include a main hall to seat 200, a crèche, small hall, 2 smaller rooms, an office, kitchen and toilets.
There will also be parking for cars.
The Cost
The Generations Project has a preliminary estimate of £600K to build the new church centre, although this does not include the cost of purchasing the site. Whiles we look to the Lord as our provider we realise we also have a part to play.
In addition to looking to the giving of church members and friends, we are also investigating available grants.
We will also have the income generated from the sale of the Woodside Road premises to help offset the costs.
